Punchout
This distress is a localized area of the slab that is broken into pieces. The punchout can take many different shapes and forms, but it is usually defined by a crack and a joint. The distance between the joint and the crack or two closely spaced cracks is less than 5 ft (1.5 m) wide. This distress is caused by heavy repeated loads, inadequate slab thickness, loss of foundation support, or a localized concrete construction deficiency, for example, honeycombing.
The following table lists the severity levels for a punchout.
| Severity of Majority of Cracks | Slab in 2 to 3 pieces | Slab in 4 to 5 pieces | Slab in more than 5 pieces |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | L | L | M |
| Medium | L | M | H |
| High | M | H | H |
